Here's what some fencers and parents have to say about fencing and the PVFA:

Dear Coach Sise,
As a fencing parent, I love the fact that my child is engaging his body and mind in an individual sport that can be practiced not only throughout the year, but throughout his life. He has met new friends and through fencing pretty much year round, has established a baseline of fitness that helps him in the other sports in which he chooses to participate. . . During these present times in our society, where studies and our own observations tell us that many children are becoming dangerously overweight at the same time funding for Physical Education is being reduced, it is important to me that my children stay active and fit, not just for a sport season, but as a way of life. . .Thank you for offering a fine fencing program to children and adults in the Pioneer Valley.

Sincerely,
Jo C.

It's easy to have fun, and easy to challenge yourself. Its an enjoyable form of exercise that can be done any time of year, with a rather close knit family of hobbyists and athletes that share a good comradery. Fencing is very addicting. . .and you can see clearly when you make improvements and advancements, it's very easy to feel yourself getting better. I'm not in there often, but I always feel like just one of the crowd when I walk in. Paul has a very direct and analytical style that avoids the classical "because I said so" mentality of most coaches. He is always willing to answer questions and explain the benefits of a technique. Inherent in any lesson is the understanding of WHY you are doing something, which I have found incredibly valuable.

thanks,
-Pete

Dear Paul,

After having the pleasure of directing (refereeing) several of your fencers on Sunday, I wanted to let you know how much their courtesy and sportsmanship impressed me.  Best wishes for continued success,
