Are you new to fencing and are looking for an introductory class? PVFA offers three different classes for people who are new to fencing. Older children and adults interested in starting Modern Olympic Style (foil, epee, saber) Fencing should enroll in the Friday Intro Class. Young children ages seven to ten should begin with the Saturday Youth Classes. Adults interested in Historical Fencing (rapier, etc) or who simply want an all adult class should begin with the Monday night Historical Class. Note - Please arrive by 6:15 to dress and warm up in time for the 6:30 class start time for evening classes. Monday Classical and Historical Fencing for Adults- 8 weeks for $125 -with Ken Mondschein - Temporary schedule Change - Class will be 10:30 am on Sundays July 11,18, and 25th instead of Mondays the 12th, 19th, and 26th. No class held the first two weeks of August. Class will resume as normal on Monday August 16th. 6:30 to 8:00. This class includes instruction in classical foil as well as historical weapons like rapier, heavy dueling saber, and longsword. Ages 18+ only. This class is available to beginners. Basic fencing gear is provided. Be sure to bring sweatpants, t-shirt, water bottle, and sneakers. Men should bring their own protective athletic cup. Students (men and women) will be required to purchase their own chestplates. This class is rolling enrollment so start any week. Students will have a maximum of 10 weeks to complete their 8 Friday sessions. Students wishing to continue their studies will be asked to re-enroll every 8 classes for $125. Tuesday Saber 1 and Saber 2 with Coach Ferullo – Saber 1 from 6:30 to 7:30 and Saber 2 from 7:30 to 8:30 practice or electric saber required. Saber 1 is for students new to saber and those wishing to improve technique. Saber 2 is for more experienced competitive saber fencers and focusses on tactics. Saber 2 requires consent of instructor. Wednesday Epee Class with Coach Sise – 6:30 to 8:00, Electric epee and body cord required. Prerequisite – Consent of instructor. Teens and adults only. Epee fencers should expect to stay after class for open bouting. Thursday Advanced Foil Class with Coach Sise – 6:30 to 8, Electric foil, body cord, and lame required. This class is for competitive foilists and requires consent of instructor. Friday Saber Class with Coach Ferullo - 5:00 to 6:30pm. This class is an additional saber class for those attending Tuesdays and focuses on electric fencing. Friday Introductory Fencing - 8 weeks for $125 with Coach Sise – Please arrive by 6:15 for the Intro class which is from 6:30 to 8 pm. Ages 11 through adult.. Basic fencing gear is provided. This class is rolling enrollment so start any week.. Participate in footwork practice and group drills, as well as learn fencing vocabulary and tactics. Be sure to bring sweatpants, t-shirt, water bottle, and sneakers. Boys and men should also bring a protective cup. After completing 8 weeks of Friday sessions, students will be asked to become full members of the club, thus enabling them to attend during all other open hours for fencing as well as individual lessons in foil, epee, and saber. Students will have a maximum of 10 weeks to complete their 8 Friday sessions. We suggest the purchase of a chestplate for girls and women for this class. Size XS works well for the 7 and 8 year olds, and size S works well for most children ages 9 and 10. Saturday Youth Fencing Basics 1 and 2 with Kelly Fitzroy and Abby Delamater. The Basics 1 class is for children ages 7 and 8 and starts at 1:15 pm. The Basics 2 class is for ages 9 and 10 and starts at 2:30 pm. Cost $50 a month. Requirements- sweatpants and sneakers. Boys should also wear a protective cup. Have fun learning the basics of swordplay with safety and fun in mind. This class will focus on learning how to move, how to attack and defend, and simple strategy. Great for the swashbuckler to be! Expect a good balance between education, recreation, and exercise. We suggest the purchase of a plastic chestplate for both boys and girls for this class. Saturday Intermediate Foil with Coach Sise-3:45 to 4:45 pm. This class is ideal for those who need additional time and practice before moving to a more competitive foil class. Students finishing the 8 week Intro class should consider this class if they wish to continue with foil.
