PVFA will be having week long summer classes for beginners and intermediate fencers. Dates for 2008 Classes:

Session 1 July 7th through July 11th

Session 2 August 11th through August 15th.

Session 1 has fewer students currently enrolled. Please select session 1 if you have no preference.

Cost: $250. Preregistration will be required. Hours are from 9 am to 4 pm. The coaches will be Paul Sise, Hannah Tracy, and Nathan Quigley.

These classes make a great introduction to fencing and are also very good for current fencers looking to improve their skills or try all three weapons. This class is suggested for students enrolling at Northampton High School who are intending on joining the high school varsity fencing team.

Enrollment is limited to a maximum of 12 students per session. Ages 10+

Fencers will arrive each day at 9 am. There will be a 1 hour break for lunch. Fencers will be expected to bring their own food. There are also restaurants in easy walking distance. Water will be provided but fencers are encouraged to bring water bottles. Fencing each day will end for 4 pm. The last day of the week will include a mock competition.

The focus will be on learning and improving fundamental skills as well as physical conditioning. Most of the week will be group oriented, but each fencer will also receive individiual lessons. Mornings will focus on warm-up exercises, games, footwork practice, and drills. Afternoon sessions will begin with warm-ups, then move to technical and tactical group lessons, individual lessons, and bouting.

To sign up: Send a check for $50 payable to PVFA as well as the following information: Session, name, age, and jacket size of the student and whether the student is left or right handed. Please also include an email address where I can send confirmation.

Note: A $50 deposit will be required one week prior to the start date of the session week. There will be a minimum class size of four fencers per clinic. If fewer than 4 students preregister for a session, the session will be canceled and deposits will be refunded. The $50 deposit is otherwise non-refundable.
