PVFA is open with a modified schedule and routine.
Welcome new students!

It is our goal to welcome our members back to PVFA and offer instruction to new students, while still safeguarding everyone's health and well being during these unusual and difficult times. As such, we will be implementing our re-opening with modifications to our normal routine and schedule. We are welcoming new students ages 11-adult on Thursdays and Fridays, and new students ages 7-10 on Saturdays. See below.
To save some time, please print and fill out the following forms and bring them with you for your first session. We also have forms at PVFA if you do not have access to a printer.

Update 2-1-21
Now that the Vaccine is being administered, we can make a small update to our attendance policy. Anyone who is two weeks past their second dose of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine may attend PVFA as often as they wish. Vaccinated fencers will still be required to wear masks and practice physical distancing, as vaccinated people may still be able to transmit the virus.
Schedule:
Monday - Historical Fencing for adults from 6 pm to 8:30.
Tuesday - Saber 6 pm to 8:30 - Beginners welcome for those who can't make Thursdays.
Wednesday - Competitive epee for older teens and adults 6 pm to 9 pm.
Thursdays and Fridays -Beginner nights--> Intro to Fencing for ages 11 - adult from 6 to 8 pm. Students must arrive between 6 and 6:30. Go to the online store and buy either "First Intro Lesson" or "Membership with Lessons." ("Membership with Lessons" is required to continue after your first session.) We also suggest that you purchase a copy of A Basic Fencing Companion which is an inexpensive fencing textbook that is used by Vassar and Temple University.
Saturday - Youth Class for 7 - 10 year olds, beginners welcomed, followed by Youth Epee. We open at 2 pm. Arrive between 2 and 2:15 pm. Youth Class is from 2:30 to 3:30.
From 3:30 to 3:45 will be a transition period for the Youth Class to leave and for cleaning. Then at 3:45 we open for Youth Epee for 11 to 14 year olds.
New Rules-Anyone attending PVFA must agree to the following rules and procedures:
1)Those with any symptoms of illness may not enter the building.
2) Hand sanitizer will be at the front desk and temperatures will be taken and recorded at the front door.
3) All persons in the building will wear a cloth mask at all times and will remain as physically separated as possible.
4) Equipment will not be provided during the pandemic crisis, except for foils for Intro students. There will be no short term lending of any masks, gloves, or uniforms until it is allowed by our national governing body, USA Fencing. Fencers must supply their own equipment. Fencing equipment, including starter sets, can be purchased at Absolute Fencing Gear. (Starter sets that include a bag start at $158.) We can help you select equipment. Just ask! A good cloth mask to wear under the fencing mask for teens and adults can be found here.
5) Each person will have a designated class or evening to fence. Fencers may only attend their designated classes. This will isolate each weapon group from the others, and help reduce the risk of virus transmission from one weapon group to the others. Update 2-1-21: Those fencers 2 weeks past their second dose of vaccine may attend as often as they wish.
6) PVFA will ensure that all touch points (door handles, etc) are disinfected each session.
7) Fencers must arrive in fencing gear per recommendation of USA Fencing.
8) Only one bathroom will be open.
9) One parent per child may be in the building. One adult/parent must observe in gym if there is only one coach. Parents are encouraged to remain outside of PVFA if possible.
10) Any student attending a school in person who's school closes because of a student(s) with Covid-19 must not attend PVFA until a 2 week self-quarantining period has been completed.
11) All fencers agree that should they be diagnosed with Covid-19 to inform PVFA so that PVFA may be closed as a precaution.
